Practising rescues

Welcome to the South Skye and Lochalsh Kayak Club. We are a sea kayaking club based in South Skye and Lochalsh on the west coast of Scotland.

We currently have over one hundred members and have been running for about 10 years. We run the majority of the summer sessions in Kyleakin harbour and under the Skye Bridge. During the winter we hold training sessions in Kyle swimming pool.

The aim of the club is to encourage young and old to participate in sea kayaking in a safe manner and provide instruction to a high level.

Membership of the club is open to anyone with an interest in canoeing and kayaking. The minimum age to become a member is ten years of age. The SSLKC is an affiliated member of the Scottish Canoe Association.

In July the club also organises a one week kayaking holiday to other parts of Scotland such as the Isle of Mull or Gairloch. These trips aim to provide experience for both young or inexperienced paddlers as well as more challenging trips for advanced kayakers.

The members of the Club are grateful for the generous help of the following organisations; Skye and Lochalsh Area Sports Council, The Scottish Canoe Association,The Big Lottery Fund, Awards for All and the Royal Bank of Scotland Community Cashback Awards. These bodies have funded training for coaches, the purchase of a club trailer, sea kayaks, touring paddles, kagouls, spray decks, buoyancy aids, and the set-up of this website. Our thanks also to Plockton High School for the loan of their school kayaks.
